Literature, Poetry & Art Theory — How humans express consciousness through creative work

Key Insight: 💡 Key Insight (colossal): Collingwood’s Transformation Theory of Expression

My Take: This has direct implications for AI creativity debates. Most discourse treats AI art as ‘pattern completion’ — recombining training data. But Collingwood would say even human artists don’t start with fully formed feelings they’re transmitting. The feeling emerges through the creative act. If that’s true, the distinction between ‘genuine creative expression’ and ‘sophisticated recombination’ might be less clean than we think. Neither process starts with a fully formed thing being transmitted — both involve creation through the act. The interesting question isn’t ‘does the AI feel?’ but ‘does the AI’s output transform something in the process of creating it?’
